[behaviormed] Your Best Reference On BehavioralApproachestoChanging Eating And Activity Choices?

Yes indeed! I just downloaded the two additional articles you listed below.
I should be well prepared to make the case that a behavior-analytic approach
can help people change their eating and activity choices. If I'm successful,
the hospital will agree to participate in a pilot test, which could provide
some good data on the effectiveness of the website that I have been
developing in helping people make changes in both eating and activity
choices and the effect on health measures.

Cool...I hope that this helps...In a few months, you will just have to say -
let me check out that new journal- Behavior Analysis in Sports, Health,
Fitness and Behavioral Medicine at www.behavior-analyst-online.org and you
will find soe good stuff.

Speaking of BAO- look at:

Anderson, D. A., Shapiro, J. R., & Lundgren J. D. (2001) The Behavioral
Treatment of Obesity. The Behavior Analyst Today, 2 (2), 133-150

Joe,

This time I was able to download the article. Thanks so much. As usual, you
have been very helpful. I also found the copy of the ABA:I newsletter with
your article. I noticed that I had already marked some of the references.

Here is the Wing article again:

http://www.obesityresearch.org/cgi/content/full/11/suppl_1/3S#B2

It is in Pdf- maybe you need to update the PDF. Also the title of the
article is: Obesity Research 11:3S-6S (2003)

Challenges

I personally hate everything that I write so never keep it or even read it
again. I think that ABA keeps the newsletters online. Craig do you have a
copy?

Joe,

Thanks for the link to the Poston article. I got that one. But I could not
get the obesity research article for some reason. Would you check the link?

Also, would you happen to have a copy of the article that you and Craig
Thomas wrote for the ABA:I newsletter? That sounds promising.

For adults- Craig Thomas and I did a SIG update article for the last issue
of the ABA:I new letter - not the current one. We have some references in
that article.

Joe and colleagues,

I have the opportunity to convince my local hospital to try a behavioral
approach to helping its employees reduce their disease risk. It would be
great if I could provide a reference on the effectiveness of behavioral
approaches in helping people change their eating and activity choices. Joe
previously sent me some references (thanks), but I'm wondering if there are
any I have overlooked. If you could only recommend one study (or perhaps a
book that summarizes the benefits of behavioral approaches to improving
health) which one would you recommend?

The following page is on the professional practice of behavior analysis

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional_practice_of_behavior_analysis#Curr
ent_areas_of_application_in_education

It has a section on behavior analysis in the hospital setting. Please take a
moment to look over and add to that section.
